CSE 4316

Senior Design I
Sections 001 (Lecture) & 002 (Lab), Summer 2008

Instructor's Notes/Messages:

  1. WELCOME to CSE 4316 Computer Systems Design Project I  (a.k.a Senior Design I)!   The purpose of this class is to give you some "close to real world" experience in developing real world products, the right way.  You'll learn a lot about the development process and discover some interesting things about yourself along the way!  This is the CSE capstone course, where you put it all together before you tackle the real world.  We will study the product development environment used today in the computer industry, and practice the phased system development process, often called the Waterfall design approach, as applied to computer hardware and software design projects.  You will work for two semesters in teams of 4-5 students.   In this first course, CSE 4316, you will identify your team, your project, and start the planning process.  Before the semester is over, you will prepare and present planning and definition documentation for your design project.  The project will be continued and completed by the same team in CSE 4317, Senior Design II, the following semester.

  2. This Web site will serve as your authoritative reference for course materials throughout the semester. To the extent possible, we will NOT rely on printed materials and email.

  3. Reading materials are from the specified textbook and other documents as specified.  A reading assignment schedule will not be published.  You will be expected to be prepared for each class based on the topic specified in the prior class.

  4. Many of the materials used in this class are based on materials prepared and used in prior Senior Design classes, principally developed by Mr. Tom Rethard, CSE Senior Lecturer, and graciously made available for our use in this class.

  5. Each student must read and understand the information contained in the CSE 4316 Day 1: Getting Organized  presentation (below) and the class syllabus.  YOU are responsible for this information.
