CSE 2341
LABORATORY REPORT FORMAT AND CONTENT REQUIREMENT

Following is the outline which you must follow when creating laboratory reports for this course. Note that all sections are required if they apply to a lab. The HEADER, the PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES, the DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION, and the compliance form are required for all labs.

You laboratory report is due at the end of the session in which you perform it. You will not have time during a session to write your report. So, prepare the assignment report before coming to the lab. Finish all sketches, empty tables and as much of the discussion sections as possible before entering the laboratory.

Neatness and completeness count. Some of the best lab reports will be given 10% extra credit. Points will also be deducted for a lack of neatness if appropriate.

Labs turned in late will be assessed a penalty of 20% (refer to lab schedule). Labs submitted after the close of the lab period will be considered late. A student will be allowed to perform a lab during a lab period other than his/her own only with prior approval, and only under exceptional circumstances.

HEADER BLOCK (REQUIRED):

Every lab must have a header block similar to the one shown below:

                CSE 2341 -- Section <Lab Section Number>
                LAB NUMBER <#> -- <Laboratory Report Title>
                <Date Submitted>        <Student's Name>

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES (REQUIRED):

In the first section of every lab report state what you believe the lab is intended to teach the person conducting it. Also give a brief description of what is to be done in the lab.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (REQUIRED IF APPLICABLE):

Many of the labs will contain questions. Be sure to read the laboratory assignment carefully and to answer all questions in your lab report.

DESIGN DESCRIPTION (REQUIRED IF APPLICABLE):

Every time you are required to design a circuit, present an analysis of that design in this section. Include tables (truth, state, etc.) and maps used in the design. Also, include logic and schematic diagrams and, if necessary a block diagram to represent your design.

OBSERVATIONS AND DATA ANALYSIS (REQUIRED IF APPLICABLE):

Present tables and statements of observed events in this section. Include a description of any analysis performed on the observed data.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS (REQUIRED):

Make comparisons between actual results and expected results. State any pertinent thoughts or conclusions which you made as a result of conducting the lab.

COMPLIANCE FORM (REQUIRED):

Every lab assignment you are given will contain a compliance form which you must fill out, sign, and have your lab instructor sign. The compliance form is your record that you have complied with all of the sections of the assignment. You must attach your compliance form to your lab report before submitting it.
