Protection period
- Personal authorship -- life of author plus 50 years
- “Work for hire” -- 75 years from first publication or 100 years from creation, which ever comes first
Owner has right to control
- creation of direct copies of the work
- creation of derivative versions of the work
- distribution of copies of the work
- public performances or display of the work
“First sale rule” -- owner has control over distribution only of the first sale of a work (except sound recordings and software)
