What is it?

The College will award a $1,000 scholarship to recognize an outstanding student leader in the College of Engineering (CoE). Selection of the recipient of this award will be based primarily on leadership qualities such as reliability, dependability, willingness to participate in a variety of activities, initiative, etc. The GPA of the applicant will also be considered.

The completed
application
and two recommendation letters as specified below
are due:
Monday, Mar. 1, 2021 at 5pm.
Applicants must also get two brief letters of recommendation,
which may be submitted
online on the
Outstanding Student Leader Recommendation
form
or e-mailed
directly to

Criteria:
|
• Applicant must be an undergraduate with at least sophomore status or a graduate student.
• Applicant must have already completed at least one semester at UTA.
• Applicant must have a 2.25 GPA or better.
• Applicant must also be either an officer or an active member in at least two engineering organizations.
(An active member is defined as one who has gained membership status with an organization, attends all of the meetings held by that organization, and makes an attempt to do more than what is asked of him/her.)
• Preference will be given to applicants who are ESC members as an individual or as the representative of an organization, including new members.

Recommendation requirements:
|
Recommendation letters should be in the form of brief messages
with relevant information included as your recommendation. The letter should
address your
leadership qualities
such as reliability, dependability, willingness to participate in a variety
of activities, initiative and so on.
One of the letters of recommendation must be from a UTA faculty member
(professor or advisor). The other letter can come from anyone -
from another faculty member or someone who knows the applicant personally.
Encourage your recommenders to submit your letter online (
Outstanding Student Leader Recommendation
).
If your recommendation is to be e-mailed, please ask your recommender to include
your name and "Outstanding Student Leader Award" in the subject line.

All applications will be turned over to the College Awards Committee,
which will make the selection. The person selected will be informed as
soon as possible.
The money will be placed in the account of that student for the
current semester.
That student will also be invited to and recognized at
an upcoming College of Engineering ceremony
The College Awards Committee reserves the right to not award the scholarship if no applicant meets all the requirements.
