Course objectives

• Introduce elements of the phased system development process including requirements specification, alternate design strategies analysis, risk assessment, design methodologies, testing, documentation, and technical presentations.
• Using rapid prototyping approach, begin the specification, design, and documentation of a team design project. The prototype will be built and tested this semester, and the project will be completed through the pilot model and final phases next semester.
• Discuss the concepts of professionalism, ethics, industrial environment, project organization, and management theory.

  Design Project

• Performed by a five to eight student team.
• Hardware/software projects are encouraged.
• Rapid prototype, pilot, and final models of the system will be specified.
• The prototype will be designed to resolve design risk issues determined by a risk analysis, ascertain the final design's feasibility, and/or determine necessary design changes. The pilot model's purpose is to similarly resolve implementation issues, and validate the system against the system requirements.

CSE 4316 Tasks:

• Project Definition including Preliminary Project Plan (Proposal Report)
• System Requirements Definition (Specifications considering ALL Alternatives) (Report)
• Detailed Project Plan (Report)
• General Project Review Presentation - Project Plan, System Description and Requirements, Test Plan and the Rapid Prototype Plan
• Build and Test of the Prototype Model
• Rapid Prototype Demo and Test Results Presentation -Covers analysis of Test Results, Design Impact Analysis Results, Prototype Demo, and Pilot Model Plan Review
• Pilot Model Plan - Design Specification, Test Plan, and Preliminary Legacy Report updated to Pilot ModelVersion (Report)

CSE 4317 Tasks:

• Complete Implementation, Test, and Documentation
• Construction, Implementation, and Test of the Pilot Model Version
• Resolve Implementation Issues via Test Results Analysis - Update all documentation accordingly (Demonstration, Presentation, and copy of presentation material)
• Design, Implementation, and Test of the Final Version as per the Updated Documentation
• Complete Project Report - Make final update to System and Design Specifications
• Technical/ User Manual (Reports, Demonstration,Presentation)
