The Texas Department of Transportation offers a gateway to your future through the Conditional Grant Program.

What is the Conditional Grant Program?
The Conditional Grant Program provides financial assistance to eligible economically disadvantaged students interested in working for the Texas Department of Transportation. The grant consists of tuition, fees and stipend.

What is the amount of the Conditional Grant?
The grant amount is a maximum of $3,000 each semester or $6,000 per year.

What are the program requirements?
Once accepted into the program, you must:
  • Maintain a minimum of 12 semester hours.
  • Maintain an overall (cumulative) GPA of 2.50 or higher.
  • Graduate with a baccalaureate degree in CE, CS, CIS, MIS.
  • Work for the department a minimum of two years immediately following graduation. Note: Dual majors are not eligible

    Who can participate?
    For income details regarding the economically disadvantaged, refer to TxDOT's web site at www.dot.state.tx.us for Federal Poverty Level Table.
    A student who is considered to be economically disadvantaged and a graduating high school student who:
  • Is a Texas resident and eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Has a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or
  • Has a minimum score of 850 on the SAT, or
  • Has a minimum score of 21 or higher on the ACT.
  • Plans to attend an accredited four-year Texas public college or university as a full-time student (12 semester hours).
  • Declares an intent to seek a degree in CE, CS, CIS, MIS.
  • Agrees to work for the department two years immediately following degree certification.
  • Is not more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court or written payment plan.

    OR

    A student enrolled in an undergraduate program and considered to be economically disadvantaged and:
  • Is a Texas resident and eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Attends an accredited four-year Texas public college or university.
  • Has declared a major in CE, CS, CIS, MIS.
  • Agrees to work for the department two years immediately following degree certification.
  • Is not currently in a repayment status to the department for a previously awarded Conditional Grant.
  • Is not more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court or written payment plan.
