• Welcome to CSE 5311

• Acknowledgement: I would like to thank Dr. Mohan Kumar for providing and allowing me to use his Advanced Algorithms lecture notes.

• Please ignore the dates on Lecture 1 for the time being, as they may change. I will try to update the syllabus and the tentative dates as soon as possible.

• The listserv "CSE5311_GDAS" has not been created yet. I am following with OIT on that. As soon as it is done I will post a message here and then you can subscribe.

• The Exercise Set posted above will be discussed every Tuesday during the second half of the lecture. Students are encouraged to go through them before coming to class.

• Course Schedule has been updated.

• Schedule and Team List for taking class notes is posted and each team can sign up on a first-come-first-serve basis.

• The first checkpoint is due on Thursday, 11th November 2004. Every team has to submit a 2-3 page report which outlines the track they are following towards their project/research topic. The report should be self explanatory and must explain the steps taken till date and further actions the teams are planning towards successfully implementation of the project/research paper. In case the report is not clear, you may be called in person to explain.

• Thanksgiving Holiday on 25th November 2004. There would be an extra class in the following week.

• Research Presentation/Project Presentation schedule has changed slightly.

• The deadline for the Project/ Research presentation has been extended for 1 day. The deadline after the extension is December 2, 2004, 5:00 PM. Please make sure that I have all the source code and the presentations by the due date.

• Also, note that if you are submitting a project/research report, please bring hardcopies of the report and submit it to me before your presentation.

• Students please note that the FINAL EXAM will be held in Wolf Hall WH404, on Thursday, 9th December 2004 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The duration of the exam is 2 hours.

• I will be holding office hours on Wednesday, 8th December 2004, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In case you have any doubts before the final, please come to my office to discuss the same.
